🟠 Buy Oscar Fish Online in India

Oscars are big, intelligent South American cichlids that recognise their keeper and beg for food like a pet. Tiger, red and albino oscars are widely kept across India, but they outgrow small tanks fast. Plan a large aquarium with heavy filtration before ordering.

Types of oscar fish

Tiger oscar

Dark body with orange and red marbling. The most common form in Indian shops.

Red oscar

Heavier red across the flanks with less black patterning.

Albino oscar

Pale body with red or orange marking and pink eyes.

Lemon oscar

Pale yellow body, a less common line.

Veiltail oscar

Extended trailing fins on any colour form. Fins are vulnerable in a tank with rough decor.

They grow far faster than people expect

An oscar sold at the size of a matchbox can reach the length of a forearm, and much of that growth happens in the first year. This is the single most common reason oscars are rehomed.

One adult needs roughly two hundred litres and a filter rated well above the tank volume. Two adults need substantially more, not double the decor.

Buying the adult tank first is cheaper than buying two tanks. Growing a fast growing fish in a tank that is too small also stunts it, which shortens its life.

Filtration and the mess problem

Oscars are large carnivores that eat enthusiastically and produce heavy waste. Filtration is the main ongoing cost of keeping one properly.

A canister filter or sump rated well above the tank volume is standard, along with generous weekly water changes. Oscars are sensitive to nitrate build up and show it as faded colour and listlessness.

They also rearrange the tank. Expect gravel moved, plants uprooted and any loose decor pushed around, so anchor anything that matters.

Feeding, and the feeder fish myth

A quality large cichlid pellet should be the staple, supplemented with prawn, mussel and insects. Variety supports colour and growth.

Live feeder fish are still sold as oscar food and are best avoided. They are a common route for parasites and disease into the tank, and they offer no nutritional advantage over a good pellet.

Oscars beg convincingly and are routinely overfed. Feed once a day for adults and remove anything uneaten.

Tank mates and hole in the head

Anything small enough to fit in an oscar mouth will eventually be eaten. Suitable companions are limited to similar sized robust fish in a large tank, such as other large cichlids or a big pleco.

Hole in the head, which appears as pits on the forehead, is strongly associated with poor water quality and a monotonous diet. It is largely preventable with regular water changes and varied feeding.

A sulking oscar lying on its side is often reacting to a recent change, but persistent listlessness with faded colour means the water should be tested immediately.

Frequently asked questions

What is the oscar fish price in India?

Juvenile oscars are affordable and prices rise with size and colour grade. Current KFM prices are shown in the listings above.

What size tank does an oscar need?

One adult needs roughly 200 litres or more with a strong canister or sump filter, since oscars grow to about 30 cm.

What fish can live with an oscar?

Only similar-sized robust fish such as other large cichlids or plecos. Anything small enough to fit in its mouth will be eaten.

How fast do oscar fish grow?

Very fast, with most of their growth in the first year. A juvenile can outgrow a small tank within months, so buy the adult sized tank up front.

Can two oscars live together?

Only in a much larger tank, and even then they may pair off and turn on any third fish. Many keepers find a single oscar simpler and just as rewarding.

Why is my oscar lying on its side?

Oscars sulk after changes such as a water change, a new tank mate or rearranged decor. If it persists alongside faded colour or refusal to eat, test the water immediately.

What should I feed an oscar?

A quality large cichlid pellet as the staple, with prawn, mussel and insects for variety. Avoid live feeder fish, which frequently introduce disease.
